La Jolla High School Junior Wins Annual Hole-in-One Championship
Lakeside, CA – After ten days of qualifying at Stadium Golf Center and 33,999 shots, the 2010 Barona Million Dollar Hole-in-One Shootout concluded today with La Jolla High School junior, Chris Tuulik, besting 20 other finalists to win the annual championship. The finals for this Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl fund-raiser were held this morning at Barona Creek Golf Club in Lakeside.
Tuulik earned the win by stopping his ball just 5-feet 6 ½-inches short of the flag, the second best ever shot in the 23-year history of the event. An ace on the 170-yard hole would have earned a golfer $1 million. To protect his amateur status, Tuulik declined to accept the first place prize of a getaway vacation package at Barona Resort & Casino.
Mike Cormier of Poway finished in second place, his ball coming to rest just 11-feet 7-inches from the pin. Tony Dreon of San Diego placed third.
The 2010 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 30th and will feature teams from the Pacific-10 and Big 12 conferences. For information, visit www.BridgepointEducationHolidayBowl.com.
